Season Pass

In years past players have had to go to the rec center to get a pass.  Now that John Bermel is in charge, players will receive a golf pass from the course.  This will be handled the first two days of practice.  To be clear, this pass is good to play 18 holes any day during the golf season, August 10th-October 8th.  It does not include weekend range balls.

Guidelines for Parents at Golf Meets

You are encouraged to attend any golf meet you can

Due to Iowa High School Athletic Association rules

You cannot:

* Give any advice to your son during the round

* Carry any equipment (to include clothing)

* Walk alongside your son during the round

* Give any advice to the group concerning rules

* Use your cell phone while out on the course with the players

You can:

* Applaud / compliment your son - and others in the group (please be courteous of all other golfers)

* Help look for a lost ball

* Provide something to drink or eat (you just can't carry it for them)

A good rule of thumb is to stand 20-30  yards behind all of the golfers in the group and if possible, stand in the rough.  Once the group is on the green then move to the side or back of it so that when the group is done the next group behind them can hit immediately.

End of the season banquet is for Players and their Families

Announcement of the banquet (date & time) will be made towards the end of the golf season. At the moment it will occur between districts and the state tournament the first week of October.

Parents:

Please also read thru the Players Information in the right column.  It may answer any other questions you have.

Players:

Bus Transportation for Peet/ High School

There is a bus that takes athletes from Peet to the High School and then another bus that transfers you on to the golf course. Unfortunately, Holmes does not have any available bus transportation to the golf course (it is a short walk).

Club Storage

There is limited room to store clubs in the cart shed at Pheasant Ridge – NOTE, the course is not responsible for your clubs – you are leaving them there at your own risk but we have yet to experience a problem.

Golf Meets

There are 11 scheduled Varsity golf meets that involve the top 6 golfers. There are 8 JV meets, which will allow the next 6-10 golfers compete.

How to Earn a Varsity Letter

In order to earn a varsity letter you must have: Successfully completed the season AND

1.) Played in at least half of the varsity meets OR     2.) Be a 4-year senior

Walter’s Ridge Ryder Cup Challenge

Toward the end of the JV season we will have the Annual Walters Ryder Cup Challenge.

Banquet

After the completion of the season we will have a banquet to honor your achievements! Time and place will be announced as soon as possible.

Practice Guidelines

Our philosophy is to provide the structure and guidance needed to achieve our overall program goal. Our goal is to compete with integrity.

Attendance

Attendance is mandatory. This is a Varsity/JV Program – you are expected to attend all practices. Obviously there are exceptions – when you cannot attend practice due to: family, or doctor visits (please try to schedule around practice when possible) you are required to let the coaching staff know beforehand so we can adjust the practice schedule if needed (our contact information is listed on the coaches page of this website). If you are absent due to illness we will find out from the office.

One Unexcused Absence = Suspension from the team for two practices.

Two Unexcused Absences = Removal from the team.  We realize that some of you will be working throughout the season. However, you have chosen to be out for this Varsity/JV Activity. If you have to ask more than once to leave early due to work then you have made a decision.  If you decide to stop attending golf practices to participate in another activity without direct prior communication with either coach then we will determine that you have quit the golf team. The key is communication!

Practice Dress Code

You are representing our program when you step out onto the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course    Shirts – must be collared Shorts/Pants – school appropriate and worn at your waist. Shoes – you are to wear what you will wear in a meet (golf shoes recommended, otherwise tennis shoes). NO shoes/sandals of any other kind will be allowed. Hats and visors can be worn. Articles of clothing including accessories must be school appropriate.

Conduct

When at practice your conduct will be representative of the goals of our program. As stated in our philosophy, integrity and sportsmanship are held to the highest standards. Any actions on Pheasant, Walters, or the practice area that don’t meet these standards will be dealt with immediately. An incident could result in verbal reprimand, removal from practice for the day, for the week or indefinitely. This should be a non-issue, please make it so!

Practice Times

Our traditional practice times (once school begins) will be 3:25 – 4:45 p.m. We will also be doing qualifying/placing rounds as needed throughout the season – these practices will go as long as needed to complete the rounds. These rounds will be announced or posted to the website at a minimum the night before.

Checking in for playing on Pheasant or Walters  Before you can play on either course you MUST check in with your pass in the clubhouse. This is a mandatory step – needless to say – bring your pass to every practice!

Meet Dress Code

For all meets you are to wear a collared shirt with appropriate shorts or pants (NO jeans or gym shorts).

Away Meets

For all away Varsity meets we will be leaving from the bus garage located at 2001 Fairview Dr.  Transportation for the away Waterloo West meets will be discussed at the beginning of the season.  We emphasize the fact that this is a team sport so everyone’s continued support throughout the meet is encouraged.

Academics

Many of our meets require leaving early from school. As the season continues this could put a strain on your academics. If this begins to happen – please tell us and you can be excused from an away meet – no question asked – you are students first!

Qualifying

Qualifying for Varsity and JV meets will be done at Pheasant Ridge (or Walters possibly). The general guideline is that the top 4 scorers from the previous meet are exempt and the other two will be put into a qualifying round with the other players. Players who qualify for conference divisional meets will be given priority for future conference meets.  Coaches will make the final determination for District and state competitions.

Players eligible for JV meets

All non-varsity players are eligible for the regular JV meets.  At our discretion a senior may be allowed to play in those meets.
